Our class takes turns to write about the things we are doing in our classroom and around the school. We hope you enjoy finding out about our learning at school.

Bridge Valley Camp
Hi, my name is Levi and I am at camp.
The middle syndicate went to Bridge valley Camp for 2 days.
I went on the go cart and the flying fox and it was fun. I swam in the pool and it was cool.
The middle syndicate was in ten teams and we did heaps of different activities over 2 days. Some of the activities were go-carting, kayaking, flying fox, water slide, swimming pool, confidence course, caving, low ropes, slippery pole and fire and damper.
On the first night we ate dinner and then we had a concert. Kids told jokes and told plays. We played this quiz game. We had to answer all these hard-as questions.
We had supper and went to bed. The beds were comfy. I didn't go to sleep straight away because we played Twilight in the dark. It was cool.
Lots of moths came into the girls toilets.
We would like to go again because it was fun!

At the Interview
Before the interview I felt really scared. I didn't think I had read that much of our information that we had to read but it turned out I was wrong. I thought that because Emma had read it twice or three times and I hadn't even read it once I was so scared but it turns out I was way wrong!

Interviews to be the First Child Astronaut
Interviews to Become the First Child Astronaut!
We had a interviews to see who was going to be the first child astronaut. I was one of the the 6 lucky people that got to be interviewed. It was strange knowing that all the people at their desks were marking me on how good I was at answering the questions. I didn't win but it was lots of fun.

The Zulu war
We had a Zulu war against the British (seniors). We had to make our spears and shields out of newspaper and cardboard and sellotape.
People came and they were dressed in weird costumes. They showed us some ways to fight by not hurting each other, that were ok and not ok.
We did it about 8 or 9 times but we didn't win. But I think most of us had heaps of fun.

Her favourite colour is red. On Friday we got her to dess up in red because it was her favourite colour. We had a great time with her. She was the best teacher in the world.

Nayland Primary Variety Show!!!
On Monday, the 9th of August, we had our Variety show.
We were singing in the choir while everyone was playing really fun games.
We were playing this picture game that we did with letters. Jenny taught it to us. Dania read a story to Jenny and so did Jade. After all the games were finished we had to all get dressed to go on stage. Tom kept trying to watch us when we were getting dressed. It was funny. When we got up on stage, gorgeous and sweet and beautiful Dania was the narrator for the whole syndicate. Keayla was as pretty as Dania.
When it all started Room 7 did their act about Mrs Sun and Mrs Wind fighting to see who was the strongest. Mrs Sun won. It said Mrs Strong on Mrs Sun's back.
After that Room 10 did their act about the Creation of the Sun. Keayla did her narrator part and said something she wasn't supposed to in the microphone.
When Room 10 had finished Room 8 came up and did theirs about how the sea never came up to see the sun and when it did Mr Sun jumped up into the sky and never came down again because now he had too much family.
We were all waiting to see what Room 6 would do. They crawled out, went into a line and then they shook their bottoms. There were lions, monkeys, tigers and zebras. They did an awesome dance.
When it had finished we all walked off stage and ran back to our waiting rooms, waiting for our mum and dad to come and pick us up. Keayla and Dania accidentally went into the Junior room.
Keayla went to see her aunty outside. She said it was great and that she wanted to say "Go Keayla!" in the audence.
It was great fun! We wish we could do it again.

Harakeke
We planted Harakeke (flax) in the old sandpit on the backfield at Nayland Primary. The harakeke will grow big and strong in a few years and we will be able to do weaving with it.
This flax comes from a collection of weaving flaxes from all over New Zealand that traditional Maori weavers use.
Our flax will be very colourful in the leaves and its called Wharanui, meaning many colours.
Every other class planted a flax too along the same fenceline. Their flaxes were part of the same collection but are called different names.
We hope tuis will come and feed off our plants.

Museum Visit
Yesterday we went to the museum in town and it was very exciting. First we were greeted by a kind Maori lady that played a musical instrument made out of a shell . Room 10 listened to some Maori Legends. Then we acted out some legends and we acted them to the class.
One of the legends was about a giant octopus shaking some canoes. They killed the octopus by hitting the octopus right in between its eyes.
Another legend was about Maui slowing down the sun. He got his brothers to help him and they held onto the sun until it was exhausted and could only limp across the sky.
The visit was very interesting and we all learnt a lot about the Maori Legends.

BISHOP SCHOOL
At Bishop School we arrived and then we saw a woman coming and she said please be quiet now, line up in a straight line. We walked into the school and it was kind of dark and misty inside and we found some seats., Me and Jaxon sat at the same desk and the teacher called Mr Green was teaching us. She made us do work like read words to her and then spell them out without even looking at the blackboard. Then we read some stories and we had to do some arithmetic maths. Many of us felt quite scared because she was so strict but then she said her name was Nikki and she actually said that it was an act and we all fell for it. Then we left and we went to the Suter.

Our Water Fight
At the end of swimming we had a big water fight with room 6. It was fun. You got to bring your own water guns. Nearly everyone
played. If you didn't have a water gun you could use a container or drink bottle. Mr Betman was squirting us with the hose. It was
lots of fun. Everyone was sad when it was over. So then we went to get changed and go back to our classrooms.
