Our class takes turns to write about the things we are doing in our classroom and around the school. We hope you enjoy finding out about our learning at school.
Nina showed us how to make flax flowers. they were easy for some people and some people thought they were tricky to make. To make them you had to strip the flax and which is when you split the flax through the middle of the flax. The first one we made we had to give it away to Nina or Janice.When we did it Jenny (Ashley's mum) come in and helped us.

Later Chantelle's mum came to school. She helped some of us do some harder ones they had four or six strips some of us found it easy some found it hard.

Our class went to visit the Wearable Arts Museum. By cars we saw lots of weird costumes from 1 to 25. We sat on the seats. On the seats there where pieces of paper that had infermation that told us about the costumes. Some costumes where made of wood my favourite costume was the Ring Mistress (Cadey). My favourite was the Cartoon Guy (Tia) . After that we went into a glow room to watch a movie about the costumes.

Next we went to Nikau Gardens and looked at the native plants. Mrs Cowley gave us some cameras so we could take photos of the plants.( josh) My favourite was the pohutakawa . My favourite tree was the kowhai tree (Taine).
When we came back we started to think of ideas to dress up Susie. We drew flax, manaka flowers, pohutakwa and tree ferns in groups of three and then we dressed Susie up with them.
Now Susie is a Wearable Art model who just missed out going to the WOW awards!
Today we had an assembly in the freezing rain. It was to be a special assembly for the presentation of the citizenship cup for Term 2.
The whole school assembled together sitting on carpet squares and newspaper because the ground was wet. The clouds were getting darker and darker over the horizon and big spots of rain began to fall on us. We had to move onto the deck class by class. By the time we got to move up it was very squishy and the teachers had to open the back doors so we could move slightly into the classrooms.
The teachers were out the front sheltering from the rain under umbrellas. A wind gust pulled Mrs Gulbransen's umbrella causing it to break. The winners of the citizenship cup were announced and they were whisked away to the foyer to be presented with their cups.
Tom from Room 2 did a really cool experiment using dry ice and boiling water. Instantly steam exploded out of the bucket- while the gusts of wind made it fly in all directions. It was very exciting and all the children were screaming. Next Mr Power added dishwashing liquid. The steam changed consistency and became more solid like snow. The wind gusts kept blowing it everywhere. The snow storms from the South briefly visited Nayland Primary.
Tom's experiment was awesome to watch. The School Spirit award was quickly presented and we went back to our classrooms to warm up.
Thumper cost 0 dollars because she was a gift from my mums friend. We lost 3 rabbits from the calicivirus in the ground. Now we live in Nelson we don't need to worry about it. My mum says that there is no calicivirus in Nelson. We let thumper run around inside. She turns 8 months on 11th we will breed her when we get a male rabbit.
Yesterday I went on a mission to save a persons life . I went in a submarine because I had to go inside him . I shrunk the submarine because I had to fit in . Yay I got in now I had to find his heart because he had asthma at his heart . I got to his heart before he died . Yay I saved his life mission accomplished .
On Thursday we did science experiments . Bradley and Connor did a volcano experiment . How did they do it? First they got what they needed to get for the volcano experiment and they used baking powder and vinegar for the volcano eruption. Tayla and Ilaria did a ballon experiment . They put confetti in the balloon. Then Tayla popped the ballon and the confetti went everywhere. Imagine if this was you sneezing! Cadey and Brittney did the magnet rubber and they had to play diffrent DVDs and CDs and video tapes. Brandon and Jacob blew up a ballon by making a yeast mixture and the carbon dioxide that came off it blew up the balloon. Taine and Daniel made a bed of spikes for a balloon to lie on. Tia and Cody sucked an egg nearly into a bottle! Maya and Shania are investigating finger prints. Kaileb and Eli played tuneful bottle sounds using different water levels. Jackie and Hannah created lots of electricity. Jake and Josh played with bubbles. jasmin and Chantelle created their very own stethoscope. Adam and Kalum created a hydraulic jack and lifted a book. Ashley is testing our memories. Myles and Clay propelled a car with balloon air. Lily and Alexis made a coin wobble from expansion of air.
Imagine what it was like in our classroom last week!
Room 10 made taniwha prints with Matt Witty. It was fun to see what they ended up looking like. There were lots of different colours and very interesting prints. They came out super colourful . We wrote out the instructions and publish in to our personal folders. By Bradley and Hannah
